Specialized oncological nurses play a key role at the interface between medicine and psychology

Abstract

The “World Congress of Psycho-Oncology”, an interdisciplinary conference also aimed at specialist oncological nurses, will be held in Berlin from August 14–18, 2017. We talked to the President of the Congress, Prof. Dr. Anja Mehnert, Head of the Department for Medical Psychology and Medical Sociology at University Hospital Leipzig, and to Prof. Dr. Florian Lordick, oncologist and Head of the University Cancer Center Leipzig (UCCL), about the core topics of the Congress, the changing psychosocial needs of patients, and about the special role played by specialist nurses in oncology.
