Abstract

This review delves into scholarly literature focusing on studies about the experiences of LGBTQIAPN+ individuals with cancer, highlighting the diverse and challenging contexts of care for this patient. Within the framework of a narrative review, this research examines the experiences of LGBTQIAPN+ individuals with cancer, uncovering vital insights and future research directions in this field. Informed by extensive database searches, the study identified several critical themes. Discrimination and bias were noted, as were barriers to timely access to standard treatment. Challenges, such as mental health issues, insufficient social support networks, difficulties in survivorship and long-term care, and transgender biological factors influenced by hormones, were also highlighted. These topics highlight domains where necessary interventions, policies, and support structures could be established, all aimed at advancing equity in cancer care for LGBTQIAPN+ individuals as they navigate the complex cancer landscape.
