Improving quality of life and ensuring equitable access in oncology care

Kirolos Eskandar

Abstract

The quest to improve quality of life (QOL) and ensure equitable access in oncology care represents a fundamental paradigm in modern cancer treatment. This literature review explores recent advancements aimed at enhancing survivorship and QOL for cancer patients, examining the interconnected roles of psychosocial support, palliative care, and equitable access to comprehensive oncology services. By integrating mental health services, developing innovative palliative care methods, and addressing disparities in care, these advancements can profoundly impact patients, families, and healthcare providers. The review also evaluates the ethical considerations underpinning these initiatives, balancing treatment efficacy with patient autonomy. This synthesis of current research, case studies, and expert perspectives offers a comprehensive overview of efforts to foster a holistic, patient-centred approach in oncology care.
