Exercices dyadiques pour les proches aidants et les personnes cancéreuses dont ils prennent soin : perceptions des proches aidants
Abstract
Objectif : Explorer les besoins, les préférences et les opinions des proches aidants de personnes cancéreuses au sujet de programmes d’exercices.
Méthodologie : En utilisant une approche fondée sur la description interprétative, des entrevues semi-structurées ont été réalisées avec huit proches aidants de personnes atteintes de cancer. Les entrevues ont été retranscrites textuellement et analysées selon une approche itérative.
Résultats : Une série d’occasions manquées visant à favoriser la santé des proches aidants de personnes atteintes de cancer par le biais de programmes d’exercices dyadiques a fait ressortir trois grands thèmes dans les données : 1) Pas de temps pour l’exercice; 2) Manque de soutien de l’équipe de soins en oncologie; et 3) Désir de faire les exercices pour aider l’autre. Chaque thème était caractérisé par des obstacles et des occasions favorables à la participation à des programmes d’exercices dyadiques.
Conclusions : Les proches aidants de personnes atteintes de cancer se disent prêtes et disposées à participer à des programmes d’exercices dyadiques avec la personne dont ils prennent soin, mais les occasions et ressources nécessaires pour y arriver sont limitées. Les infirmières en oncologie peuvent jouer un rôle important en encourageant leurs patients à prendre part à des programmes d’activité physique dirigés par des professionnels compétents.
