Vivre pleinement, faire des choix réfléchis : Approches de soins palliatifs et d’aide médicale à mourir centrées sur le patient – Partie I
Abstract
Compte tenu de la prévalence croissante des cancers avancés, des recommandations pressantes d’intégrer les soins palliatifs en oncologie ainsi que de la disponibilité et de l’acceptation de l’aide médicale à mourir, les infirmières en oncologie doivent être bien informées et préparées à fournir des soins axés sur le patient. La présente étude de cas, qui sera présentée en deux parties, explore dans un premier temps les soins palliatifs précoces et l’aide médicale à mourir dans les cas de cancer avancé, en se concentrant sur l’expérience du patient et de sa famille tout au long de la maladie, du diagnostic au décès, et en abordant certaines des difficultés courantes rencontrées dans l’accompagnement d’une personne atteinte d’un cancer à ce stade. Tout en mettant l’accent sur le point de vue du patient et de sa famille, il est expliqué comment les soins palliatifs et l’aide médicale à mourir fonctionnent de pair pour atteindre les objectifs du malade. Le présent article fournit des informations précieuses pour la pratique des infirmières en oncologie.
