ENSEIGNEMENT AUX PATIENTS : Counselling pour les patients atteints d’un cancer de la bouche
Abstract
L’objectif du présent article est de résumer les aspects centraux des soins aux patients atteints d’un cancer avancé de la bouche avec métastases dans la région de la tête et du cou. Ces patients sont traités par approche multimodale. L’intervention chirurgicale limite leur capacité de parler et d’avaler, tandis que la chimiothérapie et la radiothérapie peuvent entraîner nausées et vomissements, diarrhée, mucite, cystite, déshydratation, néphrotoxicité, dermatite, dépression médullaire et carences alimentaires entraînant une perte de poids. Il est possible de contrer ces effets toxiques à l’aide de mesures d’autosoins. Dans le cadre de leurs interventions d’enseignement, les infirmières en oncologie pourraient transmettre aux patients et aux familles les connaissances nécessaires à l’application de ces mesures d’autosoins.
