Le counseling et la gestion des effets indésirables pour les patients ayant des syndromes myélodysplasiques traités à l’azacitidine : norme de pratique à l’intention des infirmières canadiennes

Abstract


L’azacitidine (5-azacytidine, VIDAZA®) est un agent de traitement de fond qui améliore la survie, réduit la dépendance vis-à-vis des transfusions et réduit la progression vers la leucémie myéloïde aiguë chez les patients atteints de syndromes myélodysplasiques de haut risque. L’injection d’azacitidine est associée à des effets indésirables caractéristiques qui doivent être pris en charge afin que les patients poursuivent leur traitement et obtiennent des résultats thérapeutiques optimaux. Ces effets indésirables incluent des réactions au point d’injection, des cytopénies et des troubles gastro-intestinaux. Les infirmières en oncologie occupent une position privilégiée pour fournir aux patients soutien et conseils et pour aider ceux-ci et leurs proches à établir des attentes claires concernant le traitement à l’azacitidine. Le présent article présente une norme infirmière élaborée afin de fournir un soutien aux infirmières en oncologie du Canada dans les domaines clés de la consultation aux patients démarrant ou poursuivant un traitement à l’azacitidine ainsi que des stratégies infirmières de prévention et de gestion des effets indésirables associés à cet agent. Bon nombre des principes généraux abordés dans cette norme infirmière peuvent également s’appliquer à de multiples maladies et traitements.
