Les besoins des membres de la famille lorsqu’un proche suit un traitement à l’iode radioactif
Abstract
La littérature de recherche actuelle sur le traitement à base de radionucléides rapporte principalement les perspectives des professionnels de la santé et fournit peu de renseignements sur les besoins et les préoccupations des patients et de leur famille tels qu’ils les décrivent. Cette étude avait pour but de dégager les besoins des membres de la famille des patients traités à l’iode radioactif. Elle s’articulait autour d’une enquête complétée par 130 membres de la famille respective des patients, sélectionnés au sein de huit centres canadiens administrant l’iode 131.
Les résultats de l’enquête indiquaient que les membres de la famille avaient des préoccupations quant au retour à la maison du patient après le traitement, et qu’ils n’avaient pas tous le même niveau de connaissances relatives aux précautions à prendre. De nombreux membres de la famille ont présenté des signes de détresse psychosociale, mais très peu d’entre eux ont reçu une aide adéquate pour atténuer leurs difficultés dans ce domaine.
