Perception des bienfaits de l’accompagnement infirmier chez des patients atteints du cancer colorectal : étude qualitative
Abstract
Contexte : La lutte contre le cancer colorectal est un parcours difficile, dès l’annonce du diagnostic et tout au long du traitement. De plus en plus, on reconnaît que l’infirmière pivot est un précieux atout au sein de l’équipe des soins oncologiques; elle guide le patient et l’aide à accéder aux services de soins de santé. À l’heure actuelle, il existe peu de données sur la façon dont les patients perçoivent cet accompagnement infirmier. Voilà pourquoi nous avons mené la présente étude : pour connaître les mérites et l’incidence de l’accompagnement infirmier chez des patients dont le cancer colorectal a été récemment diagnostiqué.
Méthodologie : On a mené une étude qualitative descriptive où 14 patients atteints du cancer colorectal ont été sondés dans le cadre d’une entrevue semi-dirigée par téléphone, en ligne ou en personne. Les entretiens ont été enregistrés sur bande audio, dépersonnalisés et transcrits intégralement. On a utilisé le logiciel NVivo pour analyser les données et les regrouper par thème en suivant une méthode inductive.
Résultats : Au total, 14 patients atteints du cancer colorectal ont pris part à l’étude; 9 hommes et 5 femmes; la moyenne d’âge était de 56 ans. Trois thèmes principaux ressortent de nos observations : l’infirmière pivot est perçue comme 1) une personne-ressource; 2) un lien avec un réseau d’aide et 3) un intermédiaire auprès du patient. Les sous-thèmes sont les suivants : l’infirmière pivot informe, enseigne, répond rapidement aux questions et aux appels du patient, apporte un soutien logistique et émotionnel, exerce une influence positive et durable, oriente le patient vers des spécialistes et des ressources externes et s’assure que ses besoins sont satisfaits.
Conclusions : Les résultats de l’étude montrent que les patients atteints du cancer colorectal valorisent l’accompagnement infirmier et perçoivent l’infirmière pivot comme un atout précieux dans l’équipe soignante. La présente étude contribuera à guider l’élaboration de futurs programmes à l’intention des infirmières pivots et à mettre en œuvre ces programmes dans un plus grand nombre d’établissements de soins de santé.
